A TYPICAL DAY IN A CHILDREN’S HOUSE CLASSROOM
The Children’s House is for children ages 3-5 years; a Preschool and Kindergarten environment.
Children who are 3 years old would come Tuesday through Thursday 8:15 am -12:00 pm.
Children who are 4 years old would come Monday through Thursday 8:15 am -12:00 pm or some children who are 4 years old may come Monday through Thursday 8:15 am – 2:50 pm.
Kindergarteners (5 year old) would come Monday through Friday 8:15 am – 2:50 pm. A typical day would be as follows:
- Arrivals and breakfast
- The Great Period, This is the time when children work on what they have been shown and for the teacher to give individual and small group lessons based on each child’s ability level.
- Specialist time [Physical Education, Music, Library] , Math and Reading group time, Science and Social Studies core lessons, art and recess.
Children’s House, is the special Montessori term for 3-5 year old classes because the carefully prepared environment for these children includes so much more than just school work. It is, in fact, a small version of the world, a world scaled down to the child’s age and ability level. Work in the Children’s House includes everything from taking care of the classroom environment and learning practical life skills to studies in Math and Reading.
