WHAT IS ELEMENTARY I (E1)?
Children, ages 6-9 (1st-3rd grade equivalent), are a part of the Elementary I (E1) classroom. The full curriculum is designed to be completed over a 3 year period. In keeping with the Montessori philosophy, subjects are offered in an integrated way and the children come to understand how everything they learn is interrelated. Children will work at their own pace. The learning environment continues to be based on the use of concrete Montessori materials and children learn through experience and discovery.
The core curriculum for Elementary I students consists of the following areas of learning:
- Language
- Mathematics
- Cultural Studies
- History
- Geography
- Science
- Social Skills
