Mona Hjerpe

Hello and welcome to my web page!    My name is Mona Hjerpe.  I am a happily married mother of four beautiful children, and a Special Education Teacher at New Discoveries Montessori Academy.  I am a graduate of St. Cloud State University (1986) with a B.A. in Psychology and a Human Relations minor.  I began my graduate work (part-time) to obtain a teaching license in 1998, and received my certification in 2002.  I am licensed in EBD (Emotional and Behavioral Disorders) and also have a variance to work with students with Learning Disabilities (LD).    My future goals include furthering my studies in special education in a variety of areas,  possibly obtaining my master’s degree and/or doctorate.   I have been with New Discoveries since it began in 2006.  It has been an exciting, challenging and sometimes unpredictable    journey, and I am so very thankful to be a part of it!  We have such wonderful students attending our school.  It is truly a blessing to be an educator in such an innovative, positive environment! 

As a teacher, it is my hope to make a difference in the lives of each of the children I am fortunate enough to work with.  I believe that every individual has something special to offer, and it is our responsibility to help our children focus not on what they struggle with or cannot do, but to focus on what they CAN achieve, in the classroom, in extracurricular activities and in life.  I hope to have a positive impact on, as well as to inspire my students, my children and anyone I meet in life to strive for excellence, to truly be the best they can be.
