UPDATED
A pigeon was found sitting outside on the ground by Audrey, Alesha, and Will, three of our E2 students who were braving the cold temperatures to lower the flag at the end of the school day Wednesday . There were a couple of bands on the legs of this bird so Mr. Hoffman of the Crow River Flyers, a local racing pigeon club, was called to the rescue. He will let us know what he finds out about the bird and where it was going.
UPDATE: Please note the following is an update from Ed and Sheryl Hoffman regarding the pigeon that landed near our flagpole recently:
Subject: Edward, the Pigeon
Through searching old race results, Ed found that the pigeon belonged at one time to Ed and Eddie Christenson who lived in St. Cloud. They have since moved to the Twin Cities area. Ed tried their cell phone, but it has been disconnected. Ed went to the Viking Show in St. Paul last Saturday and no one there knew where they are living. Today he was at another show north of St. Cloud and again no one knew of their whereabouts. We will continue to attempt to locate them. Since Ed and Eddie owned him Ed decided to name the pigeon Edward. He has now had his vaccinations and is happily living in a coop with new friends. We are thinking that the Christensons tried to settle him to a new home, but that during a race he became confused and instead attempted to return to St. Cloud, where he was hatched, and became lost. Pigeon flyers say that the bird lost his compass. He does have a hurt wing so flying was difficult for him. It is a good thing that the children found him. That evening a predator would most likely have killed him. Edward is most beholding to his rescuers and wants to thank them for helping him find a new home.
