Apple Orchard!

Filed under: Uncategorized — luebesmier at 11:43 am on Thursday, October 15, 2009

We had a lot of fun on our trip to Carlson’s apple orchard! We got to tour where they clean, package, and store the apples and tasted apple cider.

Our favorite part was the hayride! We learned about how to grow apple trees and even got to pick our own (frozen) apples! After our apples thawed for a while in our pockets, they were really tasty!

Bus Safety

This morning our class learned all about bus safety. They learned about the danger zones around the bus. Their favorite part was when we learned what to do in case of an accident and practiced jumping out the back of the bus. :)

They will be bringing home a slip to be signed by parents and returned to school.

News-2-You

Every Monday, our class will be reading News-2-You. It is a special type of newspaper made for young children. I will be sending home a packet of coordinating worksheets that the kids can do for fun at home. There is no need to return it to school. If you have any questions feel free to call or email. J

Marbled Milk

This week I introduced a science experiment that the kids really loved! In case they ask to do it at home, here are the instructions.

Marbled Milk

Materials: Whole milk (or 2%), food coloring, small saucer, liquid dish soap

· Pour enough milk into the saucer to cover the bottom.

· Place drops of food coloring on top of the milk (4-6 drops spaced around the dish).

· Put a drop of dish soap in the center.

· Watch in amazement.

*I will add pictures soon. :)

Birthdays

Filed under: Uncategorized — luebesmier at 4:37 pm on Monday, December 1, 2008

FYI: Our class will be celebrating the half-birthdays of those students who have summer birthdays.

Good question!

Before the child’s birthday a paper is sent home with questions regarding milestones in the child’s life. If that is returned we do an activity where we have a sun and the child is the earth. The child walks in a circle around the sun and we sing a little song about the earth moving around the sun. When one full circle is made, we talk about what happened in the first year of the child’s life, then the second, etc.

The child is allowed to bring a special snack on that day also.
